The long term disability insurance contributions of York employees reduces the government's Employment Insurance liability. The government compensates the University for its savings. The YUFA Trust was formed in 1982 to be the designated recipient of YUFA members' portion of the government refund and has received those funds since that time. In addition to these contributions, the Trust derives interest revenue from its investments.
The following is a direct quotation from the Trust Agreement:
"The Trust Fund exists for the purpose of providing benefits of any kind whatsoever to or for the welfare of the Faculty Members which may include donations to the YUFA Foundation in the name of the Faculty Members."
